Young people
China has a bulging population 1.3 billion! The gospel is rated 18 in China. Restricted, censored and banned for under 18s. Evangelism of ‘minors’ is prohibited.
Tianamen Square
In June 1989 this was the scene of a massacre… the demonstrators were mainly students demanding democratic reforms… China is a changing nation but the Communist ideology is still there…
The Beach
Got to see some awesome scenes in China… A reminder that God is with us wherever we go…even in a nation that for over 50 years has denied God’s existence.
The Great Wall
It’s great, no, really, it is!
With Rinaldi
We visited Rinaldi Damanik. He is such an amazing man and a real inspiration. He was convicted in 2003 of illegal possession of weapons but in court his trial never matched up… Being in this man’s presence had such an impact on me, he was so calm and peaceful and you could tell he didn’t have an ounce of anger or bitterness in his body.
New friends
We travelled to Poso – where the heart of the conflict had been a few years ago. We saw many ruined buildings, mainly Christian homes destroyed in the conflict about four years ago. Many Churches were ruined. Poso was a chilling reminder of what had really happened in the area and how the people were affected by what had been going on. Yet again the Church there was another reminder of the devotion that these people have to God and the intensity of their worship to God – they don’t shout His praises quietly! We met a lady whose face had been disfigured because of a machete attack; she’d also lost her home so we gave her some money to build a new one.
Hannah in Indonesia
Indonesia is a colourful country of 18,000 islands, over 225 million people and 300 local languages. Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country, the most populous Muslim-majority nation and the islands are inhabited by many tribes with diverse traditions. Saying going to Indonesia was a bit of a culture shock is an understatement! When I returned I was craving potatoes, slightly sunburnt, horribly jetlagged and sick to death of rice!! But it was truly the most amazing trip of my life … so far!
Refugee camp
Over 400 families live on this camp – all forced to flee their homes by armed groups. We met up with some Christians families and prayed with them and gave them some food. It was so hard to see grief etched across their faces… and for us to be able to walk away… There are thousands of displaced people in Colombia – they fled their homes for fear of losing their lives.
Crazy team
You get to meet some really cool people on the trips. They tend to have an international flavour – this was a mix of Aussies and English – friendly banter all the way.
Bogota City View
It’s massive, a real sprawl. Way up from the this view it looks beautiful. It’s hard to believe that violence has touched nearly every person. Colombia is the kidnap capital of the world one of the most violent on the planet.
